Mar. 23, 2017 8:00 a.m. - Mar. 26, 2017 5:00 p.m.
It is that time of year again! We are actively recruiting for participants in this year's RYLA event scheduled for March 23 - 26 in Fairbanks. I am asking your help to distribute this application to any current sophomore or junior that you think might be interested in attending - or pass it on to someone you know who interacts with youth in this age category. Our club will sponsor 1 (possibly 2) youth to attend the event this year.
This is a great opportunity for a youth to meet many new peers, develop some leadership skills, get introduced to Rotary and get excited about doing more for their community.
We are looking for Grade 10 and 11 students who are not overextended and would MOST benefit from the RYLA opportunity. These students need not be current leaders such as a student body president or other elected leadership position. They just need to be great teens that are of strong character with positive attitudes, have an interest in attending and will benefit from and contribute to the event. In particular, we want to identify students who have not had the opportunities to participate in a leadership event like this in the past.
COST? Transportation and Registration Fees are paid by the local sponsoring Rotary Club. There is no cost to applicants for participation. However, some spending money for incidentals is advised.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to give out my contact info to anyone that seems interested and wants more information.
Thanks for your help to distribute this application! Applications are due to me by March 1, 2017 and can be emailed or dropped off at the CACS office in town

We're having a "Town Hall Meeting" in Homer on April 6th at 5:30 p.m. at the Islands & Oceans Center. What I'm trying to do is expand the debate on the state's fiscal situation to the broader topic of the economy of Alaska. Should be interesting and we wanted to make sure we included as many groups as possible in the discussions. It will be hosted by the Kenai Peninsula Borough and I'll be doing a good part of the presentation and answering questions. It's something I'm passionate about and am growing increasingly concerned about the progress, as well as the tenor of the debate.

We will have a board meeting next Tuesday at 5 PM at Sharon's office. . If you are a committee chair and cannot make the meeting, please send a summary of your committee notes to Beth or me.
I will be heading to Sitka for the District Conference and Beth will be leading the meeting. Be nice to her.
In addition to the regular business, I think it appropriate for the board to approve a new bookkeeper for the club. |
